Beer Paper distributes 20,000 hard copies per month. Prints are available for FREE at local craft breweries, better beer bars, homebrew supply stores, and bottle shops throughout greater Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, and the Inland Empire.

Beer Paper is dedicated to providing news, commentary and education for the craft beer communities of Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire and Ventura County.

Daniel Drennon is the publisher, editor and head writer of Beer Paper, a monthly brewspaper based in Los Angeles. He was the first dedicated craft beer writer for the LA Weekly in 2010. Drennon worked for the City of Los Angeles for 30 years in environmental policy, including stints with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Mayor James Hahn. He has a degree in Public Policy from Duke University, a Master’s Degree in Communications from USC, and a certificate in Public Dispute Resolution from Harvard Law School. Drennon moved to L.A. to pursue a career as a screenwriter and has sold three screenplays.

A native San Diegan, Brandon Hernández is an award-winning journalist who has covered his hometown’s brewing industry for 13 years and authored two editions of the San Diego Beer News® Complete Guide to San Diego Breweries. He was the first-ever beer columnist for San Diego Magazine and San Diego Reader, and served as Senior Editor for beverage publication West Coaster for nearly a decade. He has served as a craft-beer correspondent for FOX 5 San Diego and The CW San Diego, consulted for Food Network, Zagat and numerous San Diego County breweries, ghost-written and contributed to numerous cookbook projects, and been featured on numerous TV shows, radio programs and podcasts. He and his work have been featured in dozens of publications, including USA Today, Wine Enthusiast, Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, All About Beer Magazine, Beer Magazine, The Beer Connoisseur Magazine, Beer Paper, Celebrator Beer News, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine, Imbibe Magazine, The New Brewer Magazine, The Full Pint, Edible San Diego Magazine, Modern Luxury, Pacific San Diego Magazine, Ranch & Coast Magazine, Tasting Table and many more. Feature and travel writer and LA correspondent for the Celebrator Beer News for 18 years until the nation’s first brewspaper had its last call in 2018, Tomm Carroll won an Honorary Mention from the North American Beer Writers Guild in 2017 and was shortlisted for a British Guild of Beer Writers Award in 2018 and 2019. A BJCP-schooled international beer judge of more than 40 competitions (commercial and homebrew), he also teaches a craft beer class at UCLA* and is (slowly) working on a book about the early days of Los Angeles breweries. When this Cicerone isn’t writing for beer publications he’s planning niche beer festivals. Along with his wife and son (I.P.Yae.) he lives (and is learning to surf in) Santa Barbara where he teaches UCSB’s first beer-tasting and cider-tasting classes.

Josh Cortez was in the right spot at the right time to become Beer Paper’s Creative Director. One random evening, at the beloved Good Beer Co. in Santa Ana, Drennon walked in with an entourage as he does, and beer talk ensued. Years later here we are. Josh’s craft beer love began in New York City during an unpaid internship where he spend all his money on rent and beer. In his home state of California he is also a full time urban planner. Matthew Garcia became a fan of independent beer in 2014 and shortly after started volunteering at breweries/beer festivals. In 2017 he began working with the Los Angeles Brewers Guild and took up photography in 2018. Since then, he has shot photos for Firestone Walker Brewing Company (Terroir Project 2019), Los Angeles Brewers Guild (LA Beer & Food 2019), LA Beer Hop (DTLA Walking Tour 2020), Smog City Brewing (7th Anniversary 2018), Noble Ale Works (7th Anniversary 2018), Burgeon Beer Co (2nd & 3rd Anniversary 2018 & 2019), Arts District Brewing Co (Several Events) to name a few. He also does non-profit work with Brewbies at Bagby Beer Co & Faction Brewing (A bi-annual beer festival that gives 100% of proceeds are given to Keep a Breast Foundation, which provides breast education and support) along with Ales for ALS at Faction Brewing (Annual beer festival that gives 100% of proceeds to the ALS Therapy Development Institute).
